Computation of Probable Maximum Storms (PMS) and Probable Maximum Precipitation (PMP)

BOSS HMR52™ computes the basin-averaged precipitation for Probable Maximum Storms (PMS), and corresponding spatially-averaged Probable Maximum Precipi-tation (PMP) for a user-defined basin or combination of watershed sub-basins. The program automates the intricate computational procedures specified in the NWS Hydro-Meteorological Report No. 52. BOSS HMR52 is used by FERC, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, state regulatory agencies, and consultants worldwide. BOSS HMR52 runs on Windows 2000, XP, and Vista.

Computational capabilities of BOSS HMR52 include:

  • Basin-averaged precipitation for Probable Maximum Storms (PMS)
  • Spatially-averaged Probable Maximum Precipitation (PMP)
  • Automatic sizing and orienting of the storm to maximize the PMP
  • Storm isohyetal pattern
  • Rainfall hyetograph
  • Accumulated rainfall for the primary basin and each sub-basin
  • Rainfall input data for HEC-1, HEC-HMS, and other hydrology models
